“This album is totally wrong. Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore put their names and mine on things we did not write. Case in point Waltzing Matilda. That was written by Banjo Patterson in Australia. I wrote Liza, the crocodile song and Gotta Lotta Tunes with Hoffman, Manning and Markwell, thats all. Hugo and Luigi did not write anything. I have no idea who the real writers and publishers are on the other songs. Waltzing Matilda was a huge hit for me in Australia”.
The Roulette single (R-4218 the 1958 promotional copy was released in Australia with the proper writers names on it (Patterson and Cowen). Roulette would never get away with taking the writers credit over there but they obviously did it elsewhere. Putting my name on it as a writer was not known by me until now. At that time, I did not understand how writing and publishing was handled. I was happy to be making records”.
Jimmie Rodgers

KTEL: The “Today” side masters of this double album are now owned by Jimmie Rodgers.
Album listed above was released and sold or licensed to KTEL without Jimmie Rodgers knowledge. It was originally recorded in Nashville on Scrimshaw Records owned by Bob Gentile (now deceased). The album was produced by Jimmie Bowen. Six of the songs on the today side and two songs on the yesterday side were written by Jimmie Rodgers. These songs have been released in England and the U.S. In their divorce settlement (Melanie Gentile) Bob Gentiles ex wife received ownership of the Scrimshaw masters and released the songs through KTEL without notifying Jimmie Rodgers. At some point she sold the masters to Grant Griffin in California who sold the masters back to Jimmie Rodgers. Rodgers now has the masters and a written bill of sale signed by Griffin. In the confusion Rodgers has never received any information about the sale or license to KTEL nor has he received any royalties. The album was an $80.000 dollar production by Scrimshaw Records. Record of inventory to Jimmie Rodgers dated Nov. 27 1989. The agreement between Grant Griffin American International Records and Jimmies Rodgers is dated Nov. 27 1989. Sold to Jimmie Rodgers for 500.00 dollars. The sale to Grant Griffin From Melanie Gentile is dated September 6 1986 for 3000.00 dollars. All information about this album should be passed on to Jimmie Rodgers (owner) who now has the masters.
Rod McKuen, November 1963 Jimmie Rodgers has appeared around the country and around the world. There is hardly a major night club or concert hall he hasn’t played and this as is it should be for Jimmie Rodgers is one of the few entertainers around the world who has something to say vocally that reaches us all. He is not merely a folk singer or a man capable of doing justice to a song, He is a singer who moves with ease through all types of music yet it is the folk song that he likes and performs best. He is at home with lyrics that say something and melodies that flow. In the concert halls, on television, on records it is always his way with folk songs that hush the crowd. This is hardly unusual when you think that in the 1950s when the “folk renaissance” began there were only a handful of artist who had continuing success in the folk field. Those entertainers Belafonte, The Weavers, The Kingston Trio, and Jimmie Rodgers have been joined by Peter, Paul and Mary, Chad Mitchell and Joan Baez and they are still the leaders today. I am a song writer and a singer and it‘s important to me the way my songs are performed. When Jim launches into a blues or ballad or a song with a beat, he always seems to have complete identification with the material. In all the years that I have known Jimmie, I can’t remember him ever singing a song he didn’t believe in. If it’s a novelty song, he plays it for fun. His ballads he takes apart line by line until he is the song he is singing. As for songs with a beat when he’s got it behind him nobody can touch him. Jimmie is one of the great balladeers of our time I feel very lucky that over the years he has recorded my music. Rod McKuen
JIMMIE RODGERS 12th of August 2008 Rediffusion is a joke, just like Contour Records and other English Company’s that are used to surface when ever necessary. There are companies like this used all over the world. Hamilton and Pickwick are Dot by-products that artist do not know about when signing a contract. Known for selling cheap records quietly behind the doors and no-one gets paid. As a matter of fact no one gets paid even while the doors are open. The publishers and writers on many of these albums are mixed up. Research needs to look closely at all English and Australian released albums. Writers with ASCAP and BMI along with original publishers can be falsified by making deals in different countries. Publishers and writers are sometimes not even listed on these albums. Dot Records and Roulette have released many albums without this information. A&M did the same thing. Artist getting paid for record sales almost do not exist.
Jimmie Rodgers was never paid from Dot or Roulette his whole career
The companies always claimed that recording cost were not recovered by Jimmie Rodgers and there fore he owed them money. A&M did the same. Because of the Jimmie Rodgers vast coverage all over the world with all his albums and singles there are vast amounts of moneys there never collected. Artist are put in the position that the cost to fight the companies when the books can not be found is over and above, what they might receive. Consequently the artist is usually forced to give up. If he fights the company’s in question that will guarantee that he will never get paid. In the 50s and part of the sixties Jimmie Rodgers and Elvis Presley had more records in the top ten then any other artist. Rodgers did his own research of Cashbox and Billboard magazines by gaining access to the files. Records shows that Rodgers sold more records then the rest of the Roulette artists combined, yet like the other Roulette artist he was never paid. Elvis died young and I was found mysteriously badly beaten, left to die in his car. Buddy Holly’s career became more important after he was killed. In the early days of rock and roll, if an artist did not have smart attorneys he was screwed from the start. It was also dangerous to fight back. The word on the block was you get hits or you get hit.
Its time for me to get the record set straight. With the advent of computers and modern technology music can be traced and artist who are not protected by old contracts or the need for new contracts can find the help he or she needs.
I have traveled the world and entertained thousands from erected stages in the streets and venues that seat thousands of people. The money I made was for performing, not from record sales. When you go abroad and realize you can knock on any door and people know who you are, its from the records they have listened to for fifty years. Radio makes more international artist then TV or Movies. Radio goes into every nation. I recorded “Honeycomb” and became a national star in three weeks. Many TV stars in America were not seen or heard around the world because of equipment people did not have access too. Fifty’s artist were big sellers and I was at the top with a fistful of number one records my first year following that with films and National TV shows Many wonderful artists were destroyed by greed that has shaken the music business for years. Artists need capable and honest music attorneys that will spend the time to uncover what has been stolen from them.
We want nothing more then what is owed to us for our work.
